Letters

Dear Mr Garg,

This is with reference to our telephonic talk this morning. As I had mentioned, I am planning to hold a mathematics olympiad camp of INMO candidates, school, college and university teachers helping in this activity and resource persons in NEHU campus, Shillong, from Jan. 28 to Feb. 5, 2011.

This year I received information about JNV samiti's plans in the N.E.region for holding the RMO on Dec. 5 in the context of the QP copies requirement information that was communicated to me by various JNVs. In view of the considerable interest exhibited by teachers and students of various JNVs in this activity, we thought of inviting a few good JNV students and some motivated math teachers from JNVs in the N.E.region for the camp planned by us. It is felt that participation in the camp will help raise this year's INMO candidates' maturity as well as increase teachers' ability to train students in their schools in `Olympiad mathematics' from next year onward.

It would be helpful if in-charges of those JNVs who are conducting the RMO in the N.E.region are asked to send the answer-scripts of this year's RMO to me directly for making the N.E. region toppers'/invitees' lists. This would enable me to contact students to be invited for the camp and teachers in their schools directly and give them instructions concerning further preparation towards INMO, details concerning the proposed camp and so on.

You are, therefore, requested to give instructions to that effect to the
in-charges of JNVs who have contacted me.

My postal address: Prof.M.B.Rege, Department of Mathematics, North-Eastern Hill University, Permanent Campus, Mawlai, Shillong-793 022.

Detailed contact information re the six JNVs that have contacted me will be given in my next e-mail.

With regards,
Mangesh Rege

There was a policy till the session 2009-10 in NVS that a Gurushreshtha award certificate was given to the teachers whose subject average in CBSE Exams was above 70%. This award has not been given for the session 2008-2009 (the result of which was declared in May 2009). The provision of giving certificate of Gurushreshtha award to teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for showing meritorious performance in CBSE Exam still exists. The related certificate to the identified candidates is will be issued shortly as and when the printed certificates are received in the Academic Wing.

Sub: Providing clarification regarding doubts raised by the Parents of class X on CCE–reg.

Sir,

I am directed to refer to your letter No.F.6-44(2)/NVS(PR)/2010/ dated 28th September, 2010 addressed to Joint Commissioner(Acad.) on the subject cited above and to state necessary clarifications are as under:

S.
No. Query Clarifications
1 Will there be a provision from CBSE go give school wise mark sheet (along with grade) to the schools location in Maharashtra as done during 2009-10. As per CBSE Circular dated 2nd August (Flag ‘A’) vide sub-para (k), it is apparent that CBSE will issue Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Certificate of school based assessment prepared, printed and signed by the Board. For this purpose, Board will collect the data electronically from all the schools. It is applicable to all the schools affiliated to CBSE irrespective of schools located in Maharashtra or in any other states. As per new scheme, marks will not be given in the mark sheet. The grades and grade points will however, be reflected.
2 Please give report card format (including grading for ICT, Art, Music separately in Part 1 B.
The report card format incorporating ICT, Art, Music, etc. may be accessed from CBSE web site particularly Microsoft Power Point and other CCE areas.
3 Student who have taken internal examination but have not qualified for Science stream in JNV they will wish to leave JNV and State Govt. schools. At this time a marks card with only grade may put them at a disadvantage. Hence, can there be arrangement for conversion of grades into marks.
You may go through the details of grading system and conversion of awarded grades into grade points and further details to know the range of marks obtained by the child through grade system.

Sir/Madam,

Please refer to our letter of even no. dated 31.5.2010. Kindly note the following change in Grade points in “Science without Mathematics” as follows :

Previous Grade Changed Grade

5.0 Grade point in English
7.0 Grade point in Mathematics

5.0 Grade point in Mathmatics

The above change has been made since many Vidyalayas represented that since the students are opting without Mathematics, the 5.0 grade is sufficient in Mathematics. In case, if more students are having good performance in Mathematics, instead of 5.0 grade points, 6th grade is to be considered.

The same may be brought to the notice of all JNVs.

Sub: Conduct of Sports & games - Cluster, Regional and National Level – reg.

Sir/Madam,

I am to draw your attention to the subject cited above, in which the Regional Offices are conducting Cluster, Regional and National Level Sports & Games and Science Exhibitions. The Commissioner and Officers of the Samiti visited this sports meet and found that the organizing Vidyalaya need to attend many issues, which will enhance the quality of the programme.

The Joint Commissioner(Admn.), who visited Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Una (H.P.) found that many shortcomings while handling the National Athletics Meet at that Vidyalaya. They are as follows:

(i) The maintenance of the JNV campus needs improvement. The kitchen was found to be very dirty. The bathrooms of the hostel were in a bad shape and need proper cleaning. It was informed by the staff that the sewerage line get choked frequently. On the whole, the upkeep of the Vidyalaya was very poor. More than 600 students and teachers had come to participate in the 21st National Game at Una (Himachal Pradesh). Adequate arrangement for their stay and dining had not been made by the organizers. It was seen during inspection that students were sharing mattresses, which is not desirable.
(ii) Since the students of JNV, Una were also on campus and there was an additional load of more than 600 participants, the organizers should have made a separate arrangement to facilitate the dining for all the participants. This was not done. The participants were standing in long queues to enter the dining area which is most undesirable. It was surprising to see that all the students had brought their own eating plates and glasses for the event.

(iii) The scheduling of the games was also not proper as it rained on 13th and 14th September, 2010, disrupting the conduct of events.

….2/-
-2-

It is utmost important that the Regional Office should plan such a way that the students get entrust and cluster programme be appreciated.

The Commissioner also desired that the following action need to be taken for planning 2010-11 Games & Sports Meet:

(i) The regional Office should ensure that the Regional/National Sports Meets are conducted in a befitting manner. All the participants should be provided with separate mattresses for sleeping purposes. If need be, good quality of mattresses may be hired for the duration of the event.
(ii) Adequate arrangements for the dining of the participants should be made by the organizers. Participants may not be required to bring their own eating plates and glasses. The organizers can purchase good quality disposable plates and glasses for the said purpose. If the number of participants is large, then a separate dining space should be created in addition to the available dining hall.
(iii) It would be better if games are scheduled in October during the vacation when the Vidyalaya is vacant so that accommodation of the participants is not a problem.
(iv) Proper arrangements for cleanliness and power backup should be made during the conduct of the game. If need be, additional sweepers and generator set may be hired for the said purpose.
(v) The norms of expenditure for various games being conducted should be reworked so that adequate funds are provided to the organizers for the conduct of the events. The norms of expenditure should be fixed depending upon the nature of the event and the number of participants so that the event are organized in a befitting manner. It is illogical to provide Rs.1.00 lakh for conducting the athletic meet and the same amount for conducting the Basket Ball, Volley Ball, etc. where the number of participants are very less.
(vi) Special emphasis should be given to the safety & security of the participants.

The Deputy Commissioners are requested to go through the above points and the details may be sent to this office for taking appropriate action for conducting the Games & Sports Meet during the vacation and as well as other issues on the e-mail ID (sagar.nvs@gmail.com) of Mr. O.P. Sagar, Asstt. Commissioner(Acad.), NVS Hqrs. A brief report on the conduct of sports & games, cluster, regional and National level be sent along with good photograph and national averages of games & sports to Mr. Sagar, Asstt. Commissioner.
